9/23/08 Want to Learn How Small Things Can Make Huge Differences in Client Retainment?
It doesn't matter whether you work in a Top Notch Day Spa or a Cut and Run Salon, Keeping Your Client's happy is the key to keeping them! Small things can make huge differences! Do you have that client that can only make it in to see you once a week? If you do, grab a few rain bonnets and/or sleeping bonnets and give that sweet client something to help her keep that Do looking Good! They are also great for Prom, Wedding and other Special Occassion Updo's! Give a Bonnet away and save the day for that nervous teen or bride! Other little thing to have on hand, sample bottles of your fave hairspray, they will take it and they will use it and come back for more! One other suggestion, band togeather and show your client's you care, grab any of our Breast Cancer products we currently are offering and use that as a way to bring Breast Cancer into the conversation. Ask your client if she has had her mammogram or if she has performed a self exam! Early Dectection Really Can Make a Huge Difference! 9/18/08 Spa Week is Underway on the West Coast
Spa Week is Officially under way on the West Coast. It began Sept 15th but it does not end until the Sept 19th, so there is one more day! If your Spa isn't working it, you should seriously think suggest it! For you folks on the East Coast like us and in the Midwest Spa Week Begins Oct 13th and ends on the 19th. What a great way to get new clients! If your salon isn't techniqually a Spa it doesn't mean you can't participate! Offer spa amentities by inviting Qualified Guest Speakers with topics like relaxtion techniques, facial care, smoking cessation, yoga, and more! Then make out the invitations to your clients to "reserve" their seat! You and your crew rally to provide hors d'oeuvres, sparkling juice, comfortable seating and sit back and learn some "spa techniques" yourself. After the presentation is over, mingle with your guest clients, and watch your appointment book fill up!
9/15/08 Did You Know One Dollar Can Save You Hundreds?
You can save hundreds of dollars and possible downtime by investing one dollar in a pair of cheap scissors! How you ask? Easily! Buy one pair of cheap dollar store variety shears and bang a handy small nail somewhere in your shear or salon in an area that you usually mix color or open and unpack boxes. Tie a string to the scissor handles and also to the nail in the wall, making sure the scissors are handy and don't walk away. Everytime you are tempted to cut something other than hair with your shears, grab the handy dollar store ones! Cutting color tip bottles, boxes, even towels can damage your shears beyonf belief! Shelling out money for a new pair to replace a pair that have been ruined is a real bummer! On the other hand, buying a new pair of hair shears to add to your collection is fun and exciting! 7/10/08 Did You Know That Synthetic Hair Like Weaves & Extensions Are Bad for Your Shears?
Synthetic hair used in weaves and extensions can be rough on your shears! We suggest you use a different pair when cutting synthetic hair. You can use an old pair or buy an inexpensive pair to cut the synthetic hair. Save your favorite shears for the real deal. Weaves and Extensions are popular right now, and though they look and feel like real hair but, the moleculer structure makes them dull your shears faster! So keep the sharpener away another day and use your good shears on real hair and have a pair that you use ONLY on synthetic hair! Proline shears are a great example of an inexpensive shear you should use. They are a German Style Shear, With a Durable Beveled/Knife Edge on one blade and a serrated edge on the other. The serrated edge holds hair in place when you cut. Using a Spare Pair will save you money down the road!

7/5/08 Have You Checked Your Shear's Tension?
One of the best and easiest things you can do on Mondays, is to start the week out right by checking your shear tension (and we aren't talking about the tension that comes from that demanding client! ) Hold your shears up with the closed tips of your blades towards the sky. With your left hand, hold the left handle, with your right hand open your shears and let the right handle go. If your blades fall loosely past the Three O'Clock position if looking at the clock, they are too loose and will fold or bend the hair. If they fall between the One to Three O'clock position, your shears are alright; if they snap back to the closed position or smidgen past the Twelve O'clock position, they are too tight! Tension that is too tight can damage your blades and put unwelcome stress on your hands, so start the week out right, with tension set just right!

7/2/08 This Summer is a Hot One & Professional Groomers Are in Peak Demand
We know you are busy and we are glad! Don't forget to take care of your shears! If you are a mobile groomer. Don't forget how things heat up in your van or trailer! When you are done for the day, lock up but, don't forget the shears! Fluctuations in temperatures can cause condensation inside that working vehicle. Wipe your shears clean, add some lube at the pivot point and wipe it down the blades carefully (we don't want to cut your fingers). Close your shears, store them in a case or holster, and take them inside with you. Condensation inside your grooming van can lead to rusted shear blades. Eeek! Keep the sharpener away until another day!
